I posted a similar thread a few months ago, but I still haven't figured it out. I asked about weight restrictions on small flights within Europe and received a (very helpful) response from herrbert who said Easyjet's restriction was 20 kg for a bag. But now I'm thinking, that's 40 some odd pounds which seems like a very light backpack. I mean, I'll be trying to pack light, but is it reasonable that I could bring a full bag onboard? Maybe I'm just overestimating.

EasyJet brought in their famed "no cabin baggage restriction" about 2-3 years ago, but I'm not sure if it's still on. What that meant was that they no longer counted your hand luggage towards your total as long as your carry-on bag was a reasonable size and weight - so around 10kg/22lbs would be OK I guess. Just check the thread on this section that's stuck to the top and also look at EasyJet's website for the conditions to make sure it still exists.
20kg is 44lbs and don't forget that you'll be carrying it on your back (not on wheels).

I wouldn't depend on EasyJet's carry-on luggage rules as stated on their web site, because with an Easyjet flight in 2004 and 2006, they didn't follow them (the actual airport was more restrictive). For other EasyJet flights I've taken, I didn't push the limits.

Most airlines, will have a weight limit, and a seize limit. So getting away with a full backpack as cabin luggage will not work. The seize of what is considered as normal, is something of the size of an oversized labtop-bag. Besides that, you have to transport some things (like nail-clippers, water-bottles over 100ml) in the normal luggage, as you can't take it with you in the cabin.
I recently also saw, that the new brusselsairline, is going to make a distinction between light-passengers (up to 6 kg), and other passengers (up to 12 kg), as their limits for handluggage.
Also remember that the UK, still is extra carefull, and the rules there are tougher, than in the rest of the EU.
