Ever take a day off when you are travelling? I know we want to squish as much as we can into our trips, but have you ever spent a day hanging out at the hostel or reading a book in a park?
Just curious.

Oh yeah, you need to have one of those once and a while! Either that or a half day here, half day there. I think we once spent a couple hours in the main square of Brugges just people watching...
Alot of times we will go out for most of the day then come back in the later afternoon and read and relax. You will find most do this in hostels - they are out for the day then everyone sort of straggles back throughout the afternoon. People write postcards in the common room, cook dinner, watch TV etc. in the evening if they don't have any plans. It's a nice way to meet people and relax after a day of sightseeing.

Spent a whole day in bed just sleeping and reading in, of all places, Florence! I was just tired, had a bit of a cold, and while the thought kept crossing my mind that 'I am in Florence and I in bed' my body was saying so what...I need to just rest! ;D

At the end of my last trip I spent the day in this park in Prague (it was a bit out of the way, by the technical museum) just people watching and reading. Considering I was in Prague for 5 days and was both tired and hungover (too many Budvars the previous night ) I think it was a good way to spend some time. I'd certainly go back there the next time I'm in Prague.

After I did Terry Brewer's walking tour in Berlin, which lasted 10 hours, followed by dinner and then getting back to the hotel in the worst drenching downpour that anyone could recall, I went to bed. My husband phoned the next morning at 8 AM and I said I was too tired to talk. I went back to sleep. At noon, my son woke me up and said he thought it was about time I got up. LOL. He didn't mind, because he's always one to sleep in late anyway. While I was sleeping he had just taken a leisurely shower and read. We had planned to do laundry that morning. So a little later than planned, we went out and did the laundry, got lunch, came back, and went our separate ways. I did manage to get to Goethe reading combined with classical music at Berliner Dom, and then had dinner, and looked around West Berlin a little. But it was way less than I had initially planned for that day .

Hi!
Well, I took a few days off too, sleeping in and just lounging around, you have to because after a few weeks, or even a few days, you get exhausted. You don't want your travels to feel like they are a job either!

you know the whole sitting around people watching not doing much of anything is what I do most days when I am away anyways. I rarely go into sights and attractions. Maybe one in a city, and then spend the rest of the time either just walking around or sitting somewhere.
I love it.

The whole point of travelling is taking in all there is to see from a country. If you are stressed out and about going in and out of museums and then going directly to bed because you're exhausted, it takes all the fun out of it!
I remember in Prague, the first days of my trip, I was all hyper and kept on going and going! Then, I wanted to put my journal up to date on my way up to the castle and sat on a bench in this little square. I remember this moment as if it were yesterday. Just relaxing, seeing people go about their business. It seemed I was in a movie.
Needless to say I slowed down after that and enjoyed all I was doing way more!
