Has anyone here been to Morocco before? If so, what is the cheapest way to get there? I just finished reading a fantastic book "The Drifters" by James Michener and it ends up with the characters in Marrakech, and it is a place I really would love to see.
I am in chiropractic school so my breaks are limited, but I could shoot over there in September for a week, if I can find a reasonable flight (expedia quoted me about $950r/t). I'm also open to flying to Europe and onwards to Morocco from there. Thanks!

The cheapest way, would be to swim I am no expert on flights from the US to Morocco, so I leave that to others. But I think a direct flight, would be most time effective for such a fast trip. You also want to inform yourself about the climate. I am not sure if September is a good time to visit Morocco, as it will be hot. From Europe there are a lot of airlines flying to Morocco. Also a lot of budget airlines. As all flights are going two ways, you can find out the places they are flying from here: revolutionmusic.eu/flightassistent/countries/morocco/marrakesh.html Simply reverse the search, when you get to the website of the airline. Note that if you decide to fly into London, you must take enough time to make the transfer to the other airport (if needed, of course)

The cheapest way, would be to swim heh heh! ;D But seriously tim, have a look at this Post (scroll down a bit) for a discussion on going to Morocco from Spain pretravel.proboards1.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&n=1&thread=2935&page=1 as I'd suggest either flying from somewhere in Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga) - look at www.iberia.com (select Spain as your country for the best flight selection) or Royal Air Maroc for specials on flights, or even Air Europa. Or you could take the ferry from Algeciras (Spain) or Gibraltar to Tangiers in Morocco. You could also take the longer ferries from Italy or France (like a cruise on a cargo ship!) but you may not have time for this. I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the only airline that flies direct to Morocco from the US is Royal Air Moroc (RAM - Morocco's national airline) so that may influence your flying in terms of where in the US they fly (think it's NYC, Washington, SFC, Seattle). Another good book to read is The Pillars of Hercules by Paul Theroux - great visualisation, inspiring and covers all of the Med. Hope you find a way there (that doesn't involve swimming!).
