. . . ho ho. you could walk up and buy, if they still have a seat & you have fairly unlimited funds. but, most of us are on a budget. so buying as far in advance as you can, and still be sure of where/when you want to fly, is the best bet for getting cheap tix. - d

Practising you Finnish and Swedish??? Hei Hei to you too Puppylove.
If you want to buy a cheap flight, than it is best to book your tickets ahead. 2-3 months before the flight, should do it. You need to know, that on the budgetairlines, the cheapest seats, are limited, and prices go up, when these seats are taken. So the longer you wait, the higher the price will be. If there is just a little demand for the flight you want to use, than you might get lucky and find a cheap seat, until the last minute, but that is rare.
For each flight, you first need to know which airlines are flying these routes. Sites like whichbudget, will give you most prices, but are likely to also miss out on some airlines. For London-Amsterdam I am pretty sure, they don't list VLM Airlines (a small but sometimes cheap Dutch airline flying out of London City Airport). Also don't only focus on the budgetairlines. Some of the major airlines try to keep up, with these budgetairlines, and can offer good prices. (Sometimes only on returnflights, but it is never said you have to use the returnflight)
