Hey folks,
I'm looking at traveling to Gibraltar soon. I will be spending an entire week in southern Spain from Dec 2 until Dec 8th. I will be visiting Seville and Granada, and I would very much like to see Gibraltar. However, from what I can tell, the last train out of Algeciras (which is the nearest train station to Gibraltar) leaves at 3:30pm or so, which means that, for a day trip, its entirely not possible.
Does anyone have any experience with Gibraltar to know how to get to and from it, as well as any tips for traveling?
(Relevant info: The nearest train station to Gibraltar is Algeciras. To get there from Seville or Granada, you pretty much have to go through Bobadilla.)
Any help? I leave in about 4 days, so I'll be checking this thread often.

www.seat61.com/Gibraltar.htm sez: "There are no trains in Gibraltar, but buses link La Linea (at Gibraltar's frontier with Spain) with Algeciras every 30-45 minutes, taking half an hour"

Yeah, I know that part. The issue is getting to Algeciras from cities like Seville and Granada.
(I'm purposefully calling it Seville and not the correct Sevilla because this is an English speaking forum.)
From what I can see, the last train from Algeciras to Bobadilla is at 3:30 or so, and I can't seem to find any alternatives whatsoever.

two ideas, off the top of my head:
1. look to see if there is a bus (coach) line with a later departure. (prolly from La Linea)
2. spend a night in Gibraltar and get an early start the next day.
for some three centuries, Spain & UK have disputed sovereignty over Gibraltar. as a result, the Spanish were disinclined to support tourist travel to/from the colony. that may be why connections are so poor there.

If you go from Granada you need to get through Borbadillo )which functions as a junction in the rail network in Southern Spain.
If you want to go to Gibraltar (Algeciras) from Sevilla, you need to take the detour through Bobadilla, and wait for a connecting train there. (not a favarouble option in my opinion). A better option is to get a bus connection. You can either take a connection direct from Sevilla to Algeciras or even La Linea, but it is also possible from Jerez or Cadiz.
Comec-Algec is running a number of services that you can use.
