From reading Let's Go I know its "acceptable" to sleep overnight in train stations while waiting for a morning train to come thus saving some money that would have gone to a hostel bed, is the same true for airports?
Are there any strict rules on waiting overnight for your early morning flight in airports in Europe?

It's wise to check out www.sleepinginairports.comCertain airports WILL kick you out, no matter what - and most are pretty lenient. You should have your passport with you and a print-out of your flight information (works great if you have a REALLY early flight). Just look for a group of people that seem to be doing the same thing and stick with them. I've done it twice. I don't regret it although I didn't get very much sleep. I'd do it again.... depending on the circumstances

There are many trainstations that close during the night. So you might find yourself outside of the station between 01.00 and 05.00 am. There are also airports that close, so before doing this, check if the trainstation/airport is opened 24/7 or if it closes. And don't expect to get much sleep during those nights.

I believe I used that sleeping in airports website and it gave me some helpful advice. I've stayed at 3 out of the five London airports: Stanstead, Luton, and Gatwick. No problems at any of them, in fact, there were a ton of other people doing the same! One good tip they gave, although somewhat controversial, was sleeping in the prayer room. In one airport it was nice, the prayer room was outside of the terminal, had carpeting and no one came in at all. The other one we got kicked out of!
