I am still VERY confused about rail passes. For some reason like no budget airlines fly out or into Munich, or maybe just the ones I looked at I dont know. So I have to take the train, which is fine but I looked it up and it said it was going to cost 600 dollars, and that is kinda ridiculus. Maybe I just don't know what to look for. I am going...
London - Paris (That highspeed train)
Paris-Munich(wanted to fly but can't seem to find anything)
Munich - Venice (Fly or train)
Venice - Rome (train)
Let me know what ya think...Thanks

bs1313, Here's a few thoughts on your questions..... > London - Paris (use the EuroStar - the fare is discounted for those with a Rail pass - I haven't checked on the cost, but maybe one of the others can provide info on that). > Paris - Munich (check www.airberlin.com/site/start.php?LANG=eng&all=0, as this might be what you're looking for? Flight time about 1H40M. The "Saver" fare looked quite inexpensive, however I'm sure this would have to be booked early to get the best price). I used a "pseudo date" just to check the Fares - this could be different for the day you wish to travel. > Munich - Venice (even though this is a bit of a long trip by train, it's quite a relaxing journey with great scenery, especially through the Kufstein - Brennero section. I have to wonder if there would be much of a time savings by flying this route, given that you'd have to check in at least two hours prior to flight, travel to and from the airport, security, etc. I found one direct train departing Munich at 11:30, arriving Venezia S.L. at 18:30 - time 7H00M. Of course, reservations are mandatory. If not travelling with a Rail Pass, the site indicated "Savings Fares from €33.00", including Res." Again, this might differ on the day you choose to travel). > Venice - Rome (definitely use train! There's a direct train leaving at 08:43, arriving Roma Termina at 13:08 - time 4H25M. Again, reservations mandatory). Is this the type of information you were looking for? Cheers!

Air Berlin does have flights from Paris to Munich. (maybe you opted for Charles de Gaulle, try Paris or Paris (Orly) instead), and maybe they state it as Munchen, rather than Munich. (can be the case if you haven't switched to the english version). For flights in May, it has flights for 1 euro on the saver fare, if you include taxes, that's 29 euros.

Geez I'm an idiot...I dont know why I couldn't find any of this information. Where do I find the website with all the trains on it? Becuase I have tried looking on eurorail and something like railpasses.com and they were telling me it was gonna cost oodles of money. And on one of them it said that I price couldn't be determined because it was too far in advance. I plan to buy everything in about march. That isn't too far in advance is it? I should be able to get my ticket to europe, hostel reservations, and transportation within Europe, right? Thanks.

Use the native country's website for booking. In the case of international journeys, check both national railway sites for the best deal. Most websites will not let you book tickets more than 90 days in advance. That may be what's causing your problems. To find sample prices, try tinkering with similar dates that are 90 days from today. Airlines let you book earlier. Start checking on flights now. Booking hostel reservations in advance: that's up to you. Popular hostels in major cities sell rooms quickly, but there's always room somewhere. It all depends on how flexible you are. If you can book a reputable hostel online, do it. Otherwise, play it by ear once you arrive in Europe. Train reservations - as in rail pass + reservations - for the most part, can be made in Europe. Try to reserve night trains in advance via the country's native railway site. If you're taking a train on a popular route and cannot afford changes in your itinerary because of unavailability of reservations, buy those reservations in advance. Reservations are cheaper when you make them in Europe, provided they haven't sold out. Fees for train reservationsTrain tickets themselves, such as the Eurostar (That high speed train between Paris and London), should be made as far in advance as possible (general rule: 90 days before departure). The Youth fare, when bought 90 days in advance, is cheaper than the Passholder fare. Reserve this journey ASAP
