Hi,
I will be traveling through Britain for a couple weeks in April/May before heading to the mainland for an extended trip. I am looking for some advice on the cheapest way to travel around Britain. I will be traveling with one other person. The places we will be going are as follows:
London, Stonehenge, probably Bath, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and then back down to Lutton airport for a plane to Morocco.
Most of the places we are going are to visit family.
I am not sure if there is a rail pass that would be good for this kind of trip or I am wondering if buses are a cheaper alternative?
Any advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

spoke, Welcome!
As David mentioned, Bus is probably the cheapest way to travel Britain (BritRail is notoriously expensive!). It takes a bit longer than train, but if you have the time your travel costs will be lower.
One suggestion regarding your London / Bath / Stonehenge trip. I travelled that route last fall, using National Express (Bus) from London Victoria to Bath. Once in Bath you can take a day trip to Stonehenge, and if desired Lacock and part of the Cotswolds (I used Mad Max Tours - they were awesome!).
The trip from Aberdeen to Luton will be a bit "long" by Bus. You might consider budget air for that route. You could consider EasyJet and use a direct flight from Aberdeen to Luton? That way you'll be at your departure airport and don't have to worry about getting to the Airport. Check their web site to determine if they have flights on the day you're travelling, and to confirm the price.
Cheers!

National Express is okay... I honestly prefer the train. I find that if I book my train tickets 2-3 months in advance, it's cheaper than regular-fare N.E. tickets. Megabus/megatrain are great but their departure times are limited and in some cases, not the best option.
You can get from Gatwick Airport to Bath for only 8-9 pounds which is a bargain because it costs like 15 pounds JUST to get into London.
Once you've figured out the UK portion of your itinerary, I can definitely help you find the cheapest/best options!

Just to basically agree with everyone else. Once you get a solid itineray with dates keep checking the train prices because you do get cheap deals if you book a long way ahead. I'm with PONR I prefer the trains but the last minute prices are crippling.
If you are going to use a budget airline to get to Scotland (which I would recommend) most of the airports have a bus service. I used one from Luton into London last year I think it was about £10.
Just something to remember if you are traveling apr/may in the uk we have 2 school holidays and 3 bank holidays in this time which makes travel expensive on those dates. The holidays are 2 weeks around Easter and the last week in May. The bank holidays are Easter Monday, May Day (1st Mon in May) and Whit (last Mon in May). I wouldn't recommend trying to travel on these days - transport hell!!
