Hi everyone- My fiance and I are trying to find the best way to get from Brussels to Monterosso this May. We were thinking of taking a night train to save money on hotel but we need some advice on the route we should take. Do most people go through La Spezia, Milan, Genoa...? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well trains are not the most cost effective in Europe, and I would rather take a look at a flight from Brussels-South Airport in Charleroi to Pisa. (Where you can easily take the train to La Spezia, and on to CT, which takes about 2 hours).
Ryanair has flights starting at 10 euro (taxes included) but these cheap seats tend to sell out pretty fast.
If you take the train, you not only need to pay for the ticket, but you will also face a reservationfee, and a fee when you book a choucette (a bed).
The options I got from the website of German Rail (ww.db.de) are going to either Paris, Cologne or Frankfurt to Milan. The quickest train takes about 16 hours, but other take up to 20 hours, making this a very long haul. I would check on the airplane first.
