Is it just me, or is it normal to be a bit depressed after returning home from months in Europe??? I completely miss EVERYTHING, and want to be there, not here. I miss the people, the food, the wine, the art, the languages, sitting for hours at a cafe, the romance of it all... Am I crazy? There is something in the air that filled me with joy and love and curiosity and excitement. And now.... now I am just blah!! Wow, what an effect the little bit I saw of Europe has had on me. I can't wait to get back there!!

You know, it's isn't just Europe - it's the whole let down of being back to reality after a trip. I get it every time! The worst was after my first big trip (3 months/Australia), I felt like I was almost depressed!
The only thing I find that really helps is starting to plan other things so you have stuff to look forward to. Even if it's your next trip in 3 years or something!
Everyone always expects you to be happy to be home.. yeah right!

I too am feeling depressed about being home. After saving and planning for 12 months and now to think its all over, the time just flew. But I have the photos and when we (group that went) get together we have a sorta bond now after being in each others pockets for a month, which is cool. I knew I would need something to look forward to when I returned, so I planned to get a car. So now I am busy looking & that takes up plenty of time in research and getting out and about to look and then think of it, I can travel round where ever I want, thats worth smiling about!!! And my next trip! Cheers Kathy

Until I read this Post, I was wondering why I felt depressed after getting home from my trip. I'm sure my depression will increase as the bills and credit card statements start arriving in the mail!
The first few days back were great, as I had an opportunity to relive the trip to some extent, and share the memories with friends & relatives. Then the realities of work and other mundane matters started to intrude on that. Getting back to "the grind" required a bit of self discipline.
Oh well, I suppose it's perfectly normal to feel a bit "down" after having a wonderful (albeit somewhat tiring) vacation. That feeling quickly disappeared as soon as I started planning my next trip -- hopefully I'll get to Italy this time!!! Time to get some more money in the Bank to make it happen!
Happy travels everyone!!!

I'm also depressed, and I've been back for a month from a wonderful 7 week trip. What's made it worse is that I'm in at desk job working as a financial analyst, and it couldn't be more dull!!!!!
BUT, I am starting to plan my next trip (now that I'm working, I can afford one) for the summer of 2005. I haven't decided where yet, but it will be a place that I don't know much about (India, South America, or the South Pacific). I also have a 4 day Canada ski trip planned for next February.
Planning other trips helps me get over my post-trip depression. Plus, I can always take out my pictures or read my travel journal.
