Since I've never stayed in a hostel, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about cooking meals while there? What is supplied vs. what you need to buy? Can you leave stuff in a fridge?
I really have no idea.

Not much is supplied usually. Some places will have tea, salt and pepper and that sort of thing. You pretty much have to buy everything else.
Utensils, plates, pots etc. are usually well stocked.
You are, in every hostel I've been in with a kitchen, allowed to use the fridge. Put your things in plastic bags and mark with your name, room number and date so the person cleaning out the fridge doesn't throw it out. Plus, when it's in bags, it makes those that like to "borrow" things less impulsive.

Thanks Kim
It was the "borrowing" that concerned me the most. My ideal would be to get something that I could cook for supper and then eat the next day for lunch.

When you buy beer and want it cold, unless you guard the fridge or hide the beers somehow, they tend to grow legs.

I bought red paper at a local store, wrote in big black marker THIS IS MINE, UNLESS YOU ARE MINE' DON'T TOUCH! It worked, nobody touched none of my stuff but I got giggly comments heheh
