My son and I have been members on this board for a few months leading up to his Europe trip and I just wanted to thank everyone for all the help and great advice they have given us in preparing his trip. Joe arrived in Amsterdam on March 1st and will be gone until June 10th. He is having the time of his life! Attached is a link to the first CD of photo's that he's sent me from Europe. (another great idea he got on this board about having his pic's burned to CD and sent home to me), which so far has been working great! These pic's include Amsterdam, Paris & a few of Portugal. His next set will include Sintra, Portugal and southern Portugal beaches of Lagos & Faro. He's currently in Barcelona and will then head to Italy where he'll stay a few weeks with family before heading on to Greece, then Switzerland, Prague, Poland, Austria, Germany and back to Amsterdam. Nice photos indeed! Keep 'em coming.
And do tell him to keep this link handy....especially on my long trip I frequently posted back here while over there for help with cities and such. Let us know if we can help in any way. Great to hear he is having such a terrific time!

Actually, I do have a question that maybe you could help me with. Joe called me this morning and needs to know the cheapest way possible to get from Greece to Switzerland. Does anyone know of any airlines? Would that be the best way to go, by flying? thank you

Hi Ann, Yep, both from a time and money point of view I would guess a budget flight will be his best bet. Check whichbudget.com or applefares.com for a good starting place for which airlines. It may be that he will have to fly to, say, Milan and then take the train from there. Depends on where in Greece he is and if there is an airline that flies from there to Switzerland. But for sure there will be one of them that should be able to get him pretty darn close to where he wants to be. Good luck....let us know anytime we can help.

thanks Dustoff! I found a flight from Athens to Geneva for 106e. Is that cheaper than if he took a ferry back to Bari, then a train to Switzerland? I'm assuming it is!

Can't say without some research if it is 'cheaper' but I can guarantee it is like 40 hours and tons more comfortable! Those ferries are murderous, if not in a 1st class cabin ;D and the ease of the flight makes it worth the added expense. Truthfully though, that seems a bit high to me...keep looking, and check flights into nearby countries. Switz is soooo expensive, but trains into it are not too bad. Check flights to Milan, Vienna, Munich, even Frankfurt....then check PTP rail prices from there to Switz. He should be able to do it even less if flying into another country and then training to Switz.

I think that price is probably well in line - the flights from Athens tend to be more expensive than from other places due to airport taxes it would seem - plus landing in Geneva too. Plus, I assume the timeframe is shorter than the typical six months you need to get the very cheapest tickets. What approximate dates does he need it for? Also try www.opodo.com just in case there's something cheaper. The other combos I'm thinking of would probably be even worse than ferry + train - I was thinking ferry + train + bus in some combination. I wouldn't do that unless he was really needing to save every last Euro and the time didn't matter.

I have updated pictures, but they are on kodakgallery.com instead of webshots. Does anyone know how I can forward pictures here from www.kodakgallery.com ? They only way I know how to send from their website is by entering an email address. Kim...can I send to you for you to post? or do you have any other suggestions> thank you!

Anne, I got five..or was it six...batches of photos from you today. I have been working on them all afternoon. I have the Paris, Amsterdam, Portugal ones uploaded to Kim's site....am about ready to get CT uploaded as well. It's going to take me a bit to have them all done...it is time consuming. But thanks for sending them along and I will finish as quickly as I can.
