Well I can't believe Rome flew over so quickly
We were in Rome for three full days. We arrived late on Monday Night and spent Tues, Weds and Thurs immersed in Roma culture. We did all the big sites St Peter's, Spanish steps, Colosseum, Trevi ... and missed so much as well (excuse for a return trip). Everything blew me away and you can't quite believe that you are standing in the same place as roman ladies and gents did 2000 years ago. Amazing !
We stayed at Papa Germano Hotel. We had a private double with en suite. It was clean and the friendly, English speaking staff were very helpful and even gave us a map. The hotel had an Internet cafe (6 computers in the reception ;D) and they even kept our bags for us on the day we checked out. We also had a good continental breakfast thrown in. It was nice but we got what we paid for. All we wanted was a base and a bed. You can't go to Rome and spend all day in the hotel!
We mostly traveled around by metro with a day pass costing 4euros each. With this we could hit all the major site and have the fun of a sweaty Italian man pushed up against you for five stops. We were warned about pickpockets and we were on our guard but we never saw anything that worried us and I felt totally safe all the time.
The one thing that was annoying was the people constantly trying to sell you stuff around Trevi. In the end our romantic gazing at the fountain was ruined by the most rudest man in the world selling stupid plastic stress ball (agh !). It rained while we were in Rome and hundreds of umbrella selling men appeared the instant water hit the pavement. When the sun came out they were selling sunglasses. I guess everyones gotta earn a live be it was a bit much. I learned to be very hard faced about ignoring people.
So to sum up
Rome - BIG thumbs up
Hotel - OK for price we paid (would go back)
Metro- a fine mode of transport
Stupid, pesky, annoying man selling me useless crap i don't want - NO NO NO NO NO !!!!
Rome you will defiantly be seeing me again ;D
