I actually did something fun this weekend-can you believe it?! Being the true blooded Canadian that I am-we went to a hockey game! Caught the 1:00 ferry to Vancouver and did some shopping before the game. Headed to the game, got some snacks (my favorite part) and cheered for the local NHL team, who obviously needed a kick in the butt cause they lost. Took the late ferry to Nanaimo as we missed the one that's closer to us which meant that we had a 2 hour drive after we got in so we got home to Victoria at 2am. Today is a lazy day thought-I can't seem to get dressed so I'm just sitting here waiting for you all to post! Kim

Personally, I liked Victoria more than Vancouver when I visited a few months ago in August! Victoria was smaller, and I even saw a guy riding on a bicycle in a kilt the first morning I was there! You can't beat that!
If I was in your place, I would have skipped Vancouver and just stayed in Victoria doing stuff! I was so sad that I only had two days there. One day I'll have to go back.

Robyn-we're heading over the game on the 31st, Canucks vs. Flyers. Should be a fun thing to do for New Years.
Kauai-as an island girl yourself, I'm sure you know how it feels to want to head to the big city once and a while! I love Victoria and never want to live anywhere else, but once and a while it's nice to get away...as long as I get to come home!
In a totally non related topic, I spent 4 months on Maui not too long ago and loved it. I'm heading back this summer for a wedding of a girl I met there. Never been to Kauai though!

Yeah, I suppose I do know what you mean about visiting the big city every now and then, but coming from the island I come from, Victoria seemed like a big city to me! ;D
You're coming this summer? You HAVE to come to Kauai - it's pure, and the best island but of course I'm biased. There is no such thing as city here (buildings taller than a coconut tree - 4 stories - are not allowed), and everything is natural. Bit pricy, but that's the cost of paradise. Definitely not as pricy as Oahu and Maui, though.
Depending on what month you come, you could even stay a few days at my place! We've a comfortable enough house with even a little waterfall in the foyer so if you're on a budget you could save a few bucks. No hostels here.

Hey! another coincidence...I'm going to Hawaii this winter ;D staying in Maui though, not Kauai. My family used to go every year when I was younger but when I got to junior high they stopped bringing me. Now that I have reading break in February I won't be missing much school so they're taking me one more time. Can't wait! It would be amazing to go to Kauai, but as I only have a week I won't have enough time. Maybe some day in the future... Robyn
