Just checking the boards and putting my feet up....
In the south of the Netherlands it's the fest of 'carnaval' right now. I think you can compare it a bit to the beerfest in Munich, it's a lot of people dressing up, dancing and simply enjoying themselves (yes, and drinking beer!). This lasts a total of five days and includes parades with lots of music and beautiful things to see. I went out yesterday and the day before, and will be going tomorrow. I dressed up like a lady from a harem
Today, I'm just relaxing and gathering strength for tomorrow... When I listen closely, I can hear the music playing down the street.
In the past, it was a feast to prepare for the fasting in the 40 days before easter. This means you are not allowed to eat candy and drink alcohol, so in these five days people 'saved up' for the days to come. Nowadays, it's just about having fun.
It's hard to explain Carnaval, it's something you must experience. People in the north of the Netherlands think we've all gone mad
