Anyone else totally nutso over these silly books? Anyone reading and want to discuss? I am on page 450 now.....about halfway through. Those of you reading this too....if you want to chat about it, please....spoiler headers! e.g Chapter 1-spoilers....Chapter 10-spoilers.....that way anyone who has not reached 'chapter whatever' will know to not click on that thread. Does this sound fair? Nothing worse than entering a post and reading something you've not yet read in the book.....so spoilers by chapter number should stop that happening. So......who else is reading? Anxious to compare notes and thoughts! So far...I am loving this newest book. ;D Who knew a 51 year old grandma would be obsessed by a 'children's' book? ;D ;D ging

I know, can you believe the ending to this newest one! I couldn't believe... j/k I've never layed my hands on a harry potter book, but some younger relatives seem to blow through these books at quite a pace. I'm more of a movie person. Only thing I really read now is the paper and magazines.

Ging, my daughter must be one of the most loyal HP fans out there. She has read each book dozens of times (well not the last one yet - just once so far) and has parts of some memorized. I've read hundreds of pages aloud to her.

See, I'm much more of a "read the book over watching the movie" kind of person but I haven't read any of the books.. but have seen the movies and am right into them!
Boyfriend has read all the books though and that says something as he is not a reader!

READ THEM! The movies are fine....but it's the imagination in the reading that is the magic here. A nine year old just insisted I read the first one 'years' ago now....and have been hooked ever since. They are really quite good. And may I add totally can not wait untill Lizzy is anywhere near old enough to follow along so I can begin reading them to her! ;D

I've read the Harry Potter books! ;D
It all started 'cause I would see all these kids reading them. And at first I assumed that it was just a child's book! BUT THEN I started seeing people on the subway reading them -- like 40 year-old people!!
So then I decided that my 20-something year old-self could definitely pick them up and read them too!
I liked them -- A LOT!
I haven't read the last one yet. I haven't bought it yet. Part of me is thinking that I should wait until I leave for France and it can be my in-flight book. To continue as my TGV ride to Geneva book!

I've finished the latest one....it's great. A bit 'darker' than the previous ones....not sure if the younger kidlets will get it as much. She handles the aging issue very well...they are believable pre-teen, early teen kids. And all that assorted angst that the age gives. Several new characters and many questions are answered. I finished it in about 2 1.2 days, of course that was loads of reading! But it moves just as quickly as the others and keeps you guessing. Would make a great flight book! But the longer it is out the harder it will be to NOT hear what the surprises are. Of which there are several, but not the HUGE ones I was expecting.

I hear you on the darker thing.............
To be honest I thought the last one (#4) was WAY TOO dark for little children. Or at least if I had children that were teeny weeny I don't think I'd let them read it.
I was in shock when Cedric died!! I turned the page and was SO NOT expecting that!
As far as the surprises -- I've read (yup, I went looking) some rumours about what they are. If what I read is true then it will indeed be good.
Either way I think I'm okay with hearing minimal stuff as long as it's not confirmed..................that will happen when I read the books!

Hi all! I really liked the newest one. It took my friends forever to finally convince me to read the first 4 books, but once they did I was hooked! I went to Target, on a hunch, and got #5 for about 1/2 the price I would have payed at a "real" bookstore, which made me VERY happy. I read #5 in about 2 days (of non stop reading ). It is a lot darker than the other ones, but that's mostly because Harry is growing up. I agree that some of the younger kids won't "get" what is going on, but there are a lot of things that I didn't really understand when I was little either that I still enjoyed. Hopefully, as they mature they will be able to see the books w/ fresh eyes and still enjoy them. I also agree that nothing can compare w/ reading the books. The movies are really well done and enjoyable, but some of the best parts were cut out of the 2nd one. I think cutting books 4 & 5 down to movie length will be almost impossible! Danielle
