I've emailed some members we haven't heard from much or from in a long time.
I've started this thread so that they or any people that just lurk can say hi and tell a bit about themselves.
Who's going to start?

Okay, I will be the first to brave an introduction in the living room!! My name is Michelle and I am from Vancouver, BC. After finding this site and reading through a bunch of threads, I decided it would be an excellent place to get travel tips and information.
I'm planning a trip to Europe next summer (2004) for about 10 weeks. I'm going with my boyfriend and we're spending the first 4-5 weeks with his parents and younger brother in Italy (they are Italian). We'll also see Paris with them during that time. Then my boyfriend and I are staying after his family leave for another 5-6 weeks travelling the rest of Western Europe.
We have a general idea of which cities we want to visit, we just don't know in what order yet. So I look forward to any and all information anyone has to offer me! If you have any questions about my trip, just ask!

Hi Michelle! Oh, Italian men...oh Italy! ;D I am the resident fanatic on Italy, particularly Florence. Everyone is darn sick of hearing me wax on and on about this amazing city. Did a 4 month trip year before last and never did make it to Spain as I ended up doubling the scheduled time I had allotted for each place I found myself in that most visitor worthy country. I simply had a most marvelous time there where ever I stepped off the train. Glad you are here. We love to help and live vicariously through the other members. You'll find there are some very experienced travelers here, from all walks of life, ages, and styles of travel. So most anything you need, info wise, someone will likely know or know where to find it for you. We do try at least. When you are ready, give us an idea of the cities you are wanting to include. It's something easily overlooked, but there is a real challenge to planning the route your trip and not finding yourself essentially backtracking all over the continent can save you time and dollars. We've got a photo album, in case you missed it, and if you want to put a face to a name you can find many of us there...as well as some pretty amazing photos from member's trips. I will be in Venice, Florence and Rome this Dec/Jan. Let me know if there is anything specific in those three that you'd like me to check out for you. Again, welcome.......ask away! We live for questions! LOL ginger

Hello!!
I just thought I would say a quick hello in here and a big thank you to everyone who has been helping plan my trip! I can't tell you how much your advice on these boards has helped me in planning my trip for next summer (I'm excited already!!).
And I guess I should also mention that my name is Kirsten and I'm from Victoria,BC (well, originally Calgary, AB but I've moved out west for school and am loving every minute of it!!).
I have family in Scotland so I have been to the UK before and I have also traveled a bit in France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand when I used to dance.
Anyway, I love to travel and hope that I can help out on these boards at some point in the furture!!
Thanks again! Kirsty ;D

Hi to both of you (I say hi to you all the time, Ging ;D)
Well, I think I might take a turn!
I'm Kim and I'm the owner of these boards and guideforeurope.com, which I started after my 7 month, 17 country Europe trip in 2000. I can't take all the credit though, I do have A LOT of help from my moderators Ging (dustoffmom) and Patrick, as well as from our contributing members, Ray in Prague and CuriousToronto (Karen) in Paris.
I also live in Victoria, BC and like Kirsty, love it! Couldn't image living many other places - going to them for extended periods of time yes, living no.
My last trip was to Bali and Bangkok last Sept., so it's been far too long since I travelled.
I'm going to be 30 <I know I don't act it - thought I would get to that before Ging and Patrick try to take me down> in April, which feels weird. Funny how you get to this age when all you wanted to be was 16..
Anyway, I'm hoping to get back to Europe next year - but as the boyfriend has a few other places in mind, we'll see. Negotiations are under way.

Hi everyone - another Canuck here - from Vancouver.
I'm sitting here at work - having been back from my European travels for about 3 months now. I went to France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Holland, England, Scotland and Ireland from April till July - and it was the best thing i've ever done. Besides meeting my girlfriend, of course.
Italy is definitely my favorite - and when I fantasize about travelling instead of sitting here in front of the freakin computer, all i can think about is bella italia. The coast was absolutely spectacular - from Cinque terre, to Amalfi and Capri. The warm, turquoise waters, the virgin olive oil, the vino, the tomato mozarella ensalatas, the vivacious people, the curvy italian women, ooh la la...
Ok then, back to reality, and the drewry rainy day in Vancouver,
ciao for now, Sheldon

Welcome Sheldon, Nice to find a kindred soul! I literally dream of Italy. ;D Did you enjoy Scotland? Next to Italy that was my favorite country...and I was there in dead of winter. Another return trip I want to make...Scotland in the spring this time. Jump right in on questions.....with all you've traveled you have to have loads of insight to offer to our newer meembers....and older ones as well. ging

Hi everyone. How are we all? Good I hope! ;D Well my name is Anthony and I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I'm 19 years-old... but don't hold it against me. I'm a Psychology/Neuroscience major. I'm in my second year of University and have two more left. As you can probably guess, I'd like to be a Psychologist. And also dabble with the Arts in my spare time. I'm very much a novice in terms of travel. I have been to Adelaide and will be travelling to Sydney for my second time at the end of this year. I intend on celebrating New Years with one of my best friends in the entire world (everyone say hello to Mariana!!!). My wish is to travel a few countries in Europe alone next year. Not in any particular order: Germany, Paris, Italy and Poland. I can't think of a better way to mature, to learn, gain independence and hopefully gain a better understanding of this big ball of beautiful dirt and water called "earth". Finally, I just wanted to say this is an amazing place with some amazing people. Thanks to Kim for a very warm welcome. Very much appreciated. All the best to everyone...

My first trip was when I was 19 and was to Australia! We started off in Melbourne and did the coast up to Cairns. I remember Melbourne being a lot like Vancouver, actually. Gorgeous country, I loved it. Spent 3 months travelling around then had to come back cause I was enrolled in school and all I wanted to do was go back to Oz! Kim

Hello all. My name is Cil and I turned 49 today--please don't hold that against me! I am sort of a refugee member of other travel boards. Have been on the move since I was born a United Airlines brat. Enjoy Europe of all the places I've been, and I don't think I could pick any particular country as a favorite, but have probably been to the UK the most, with Italy close behind. The only part of Canada I have seen was Vancouver, but I loved that beautiful city. Am married with two kids, one of whom is going to school and teaching English in France, and I am planning a France-and-perhaps-Spain trip for summer 2004.

hey all! I'm Elliott, a 20 year old college kid in Richmond virginia, but I'm from New Jersey. I'm studying abroad next fall (2004) and while getting in the mood I was struck by the backpacking bug ;D Well now I'm planning to go backpacking for for a few months in the summer before I head over to Edinburgh for school in the fall. I've been avidly reading posts on this message board for a while now, I thought it was time I stepped outta the shadows. Any way you guys give awesome advice. someday, hopefully, I will be able give some of my own. Later

Welcome, Elliott!
I'm so jealous - not only are you studying in Scotland but travelling as well?? Damn!
Glad you finally starting posting - we love new members! It's kind of sad when we help plan trips then people leave.. we need new ones to fill in the gaps!
So what are you going to be studying in Edinburgh?
