Maybe you've heard already, over here it's all over the news (naturally Yesterday a new princess of The Netherlands was born. She's the daughter of our crown prince and his Argentinian wife. She wasn't expected to deliver for another few weeks, so the press was pretty suprised. Good for them! This way the couple has had a bit of an opportunity to enjoy the pregnancy and the birth. She doesn't have a name yet, though. This will be announced tomorrow. My vote goes to Emma, it's the name of the queen who saved the dynasty by giving birth to the grandmother of our queen. This was the kings first and only child (and Emma was the king's second wife!) Coincidentely my father and my nieces birthday were yesterday as well, and eight days ago my nephew was born! Now my brother is already trying to match up his newborn son to the princess ;D ;D

Wow, that's cool! ;D I like the name Emma too - is there any speculation on what it will be? Are there any traditional names that are used alot for royalty in the Netherlands? I'm really interested, keep me posted!! Kim

An hour ago the name of the princess has been announced. It's Catharina Amalia (Dutch spelling) and then about five additional names or so. And then some ten or so titles. A lot a weight to carry for such a little girl... I think she'll be called Catharina (Catharine) for short. Usually thy name some famous royal ancestors. And with a girl, the name of the grandmother is used as well. I don't know if they used it this time, havent' seen the princesses full name yet. Names that have been frequently used are Willem/Wilhemina, Juliana, Maurits, Friso an so on. With a history of over 200 years they have quite a lot of names to choose from!

I still wish they'd opted for 'your' choice....I like Emma a lot. And I like Amalia as well. Wonder why they went with the much more 'common' Catherine? Regardless, it's always a happy day when a babe is born!

I heard the princess will be called Amalia for short and not Catharina. So you get your way, Ging! I liked Catharina better, but hey, who am I to judge? Cat (NOT Catharina ;D)
