Nope, I've asked her maybe 5 times or so if she will add a link to my site and she never does so it wouldn't be there! I just thought our sites would compliment each other but maybe she doesn't think so! Kim

In the year 2000, right after I finished school, I packed up my car and drove across the US towards Seattle Wa, which became a very liberating expereince. I lived there for 15 months. My traveling whims became a lifestyle. Inspiration came by the truckload fueled in part by the people I met and also Rick Steve's PBS program. His program prompted me to attend some of his free seminars at his Everett Headquarters which did nothing more than fueled my desire to go. One nite I made my decision to make it a goal to make to Europe in the next 2 years and while I was in that inspirational high I searched for backpacking sites and I found - among others- a link to Kim's 7 month vacation photo gallery. (it wasn't "guideforeurope" yet) and I saved the link for future inspiration and subsequential planning. A year later when the chance aroused for me to take a full month off from work and head over to Europe, I revisited all those link I had so eagearly saved on that faithful nite and lo and behold, when I click on Kim's Adventure page it came up as guideforeurope. I started to peruse along with the other sites, but it didn't compare and eventually this became the only site I use. Three years and two trips later, I still think this is one of my favorites sites.

Baratier, I've thought of going to those free Rick Steves seminars, but it's a bit of a hassle to get there for Saturday morning from Vancouver. Did you find them helpful?

I had totally forgotten about that Bara! How guideforeurope.com started (for the rest of you) was when I came back from Europe, I posted some of my photos and reviews where we stayed in Europe. I think it was a total of 2 pages - and it was called Kim's European Adventure.
That is so funny that you remember that still - that was a long time ago, my friend!

I went to a talk Rick Steves gave (he came to Victoria) and while it was good, I found it to be heavy on the Rick Steves promotion - books, merchandise etc. And I mean heavy...
He is an entertaining speaker though. I tried to get an interview for this site but it was a no go.

I am the kind of person that need to do things in order to learn them and since I did NOT put into practice what I've learned at the seminars right away... it is kind of iffy for me to say if the were helpful or not. There are a few nuggets of tips that I remember I learn from there as far as how to pack your clothes and way to do laundry and stuff. As far as country knowledge, I think I learned more from watching the shows than by attending his seminars. The classes gave me inspiration, that is for sure, but like Kim mentions it, they are biased to their brand of products and stuff. If you are really interesting in attending his seminars. I think that once in a while, they have an "open house day" in which they hold all "major" seminars back to back in one day from 8Am until 4PM. Since you are far away, I think that would be convenient for you instead as opposed tp come all the way down for a one hour class. Make a field out of it. Everett is a quaint town and very nice to just walk around and relax. Just a suggestion. To make a more valid point, I love watching his shows, however, I found his guides to be rather dragging and rather "wordy". Maybe its me, but when I am over there I want my guide to be more factual and tell straight up the information I want. I don't think I would've fair as well as I did in those few ocassions that I really depended on my guide to save my butt, if I had been using an RS' guide. I do like his MONA SMILES Museum self guided tour guide. But even so I use it as a reference and I don't think I have ever done any museum under the time his guides allows for it. Then again I am artsy kind of guy and I tend to wander around on my own. That's my two cents! bara Baratier, I've thought of going to those free Rick Steves seminars, but it's a bit of a hassle to get there for Saturday morning from Vancouver. Did you find them helpful?
