Im going to europe this june, and with all that is going on in the world, my boss who travels quite often says that I should buy a foriegn backpack. what would you recommend? In addition, what other dressing tips could you offer to be able to blend in with the rest of Europe? America is quite different! Or is buying foriegn brands to disguise myself as american going too far?

Personally, I would saying going too far. Here's the thing - you are going to have this giant pack on your shoulders anyway, people will notice that, rather than the brand.
As long as you speak quietly and have respect for the people and your surroundings, you won't have any problems. The kind of thing that makes people stand out is saying things like "In my country, that's not how it's done.." and that sort of thing. Makes me cringe!
I really, really wouldn't worry about this. There might be a person or two who might judge you instantly when they hear you speak but the majority will judge you more on your actions.

don't worry. If you are gonna get your ass kicked, it will not be because you own something made in America.

I agree! If you treat people like you want te be treated yourself, you won't have any problems. Speaking a few words of the native language helps, but a lot of people in Europe speak English nowadays. Still, the attempt would be appreciated. About the backpack-thing: A lot of american brands are sold in Europe as well, so what would be the point of buying a 'european' backpack? In this time of globalisation, a lot of the same products are traded all over the world! Cat
