Reading the replies in CT's law school post....heartiest congrats again on that!.....I noticed how many of you said you'd never been east/west of here or there. And it got me to thinking...we're all about travel to Europe round here, but what about our own home countries or those we neighbor? How much of these areas have you explored? I have visited every state minus Alaska, Hawaii, Washington and Oregon....albeit some of them just a quick drive through. But of Canada I have seen nothing except the other side of Niagra Falls. Sheesh, maybe instead of heading off to Europe next trip I should think about heading north instead. I've heard the train trip across Canada is so spectacular....hmmm....perhaps a trip idea is forming? How about you all, where have you been and how much of your country have you seen?

A Pacific Northwest trip would be just the thing for you, dustoffmom! Imagine all you could see in Oregon, WA, BC, and then heading up by ferry to Alaska (you could take a standard cruise or take the state ferry from Bellingham, WA just south of the BC border). I think I figured out I've been to thirty-some states and 6 provinces, but many of these I hardly remember as I was very young at the time. I am keen to see major US cities like NYC, Boston, and Washington, DC. I'd also like to give Toronto and Montreal more time. And although I've been to southern California many times, I've never really explored LA (never did figure out what was "safe" and what wasn't). Every budget tip for Europe works in North America also. A car is often more necessary, of course, in NA.

The furthest east in Canada I have been is Winnipeg, but I hope to make it further than that in my lifetime! I hear the Martime provinces are beautiful, and I would love to visit Toronto... I live in Vancouver, so the only place farther west of me is Vancouver Island, which I been to many times.
I have travelled all the way down the west coast of the US many times. My family used to drive to Palm Springs every year for Spring break since I was 5 years old to about 16 years old, so I know that part of the US really well.
I would love to do a road trip of the US, and also one day drive across Canada from west to east. I just wish somehow you could skip the drive through Saskatchewan and Manitoba because it is so FLAT and BORING!!

>>>>>> I just wish somehow you could skip the drive through Saskatchewan and Manitoba because it is so FLAT and BORING!! <<<< ;D Along the lines of Kansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, northern Texas??? US has it's fair share of those 'plains' states that seem to take forever to get through. But there ya go...I actually had no idea they had a matching counterpart in Canada.

I've driven all the way from Ontario to BC and back in a span of 3 weeks. That was an amazing trip, but I did that years ago. I've been wanting to drive through Quebec, New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia and to Newfoundland but am lacking time and am not liking gas prices right now I'm sure I'll do it sometime though, question is just when will I get the free time! ;D I guess I should add US states I've been to. (not many) New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, Florida

Let's see, I've been to every state on the eastern seaboard, but never west of the Appalachian Mountains - Maine, Massachusettes, Vermont, New Hamshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. I went to California once too, but I was only 4 months old at the time, so it doesn't really count, does it? All I've seen of Canada, Unfortunately, is Niagra Falls. And I haven't been out of the country at all, with that exception.

Considering that my country is pretty small compared to the US or Canada I've seen relatively little of it- all I've seen in England is London, Birmingham and parts of Devon/Cornwall. In Wales I've seen most of South Wales and in Scotland I've seen the outskirts of Glasgow. I find that I'm not really that interested in travelling around the UK, especially when it costs quite a bit. It's more attractive (and cheaper) to jump on a budget flight to somewhere on the continent .

Just read it - they are right, after the Olympics everyone is going to know about our secret city! Thought it was interesting that they didn't use the standard touristy pictures of the Inner Harbour etc. That picture is down by the ocean and quite far down this one road that is pretty residental.

Well - looks like come July 2nd I will finally have been to the "other coast."
I have done the Ontario (been all the way up to Hudson's Bay), Quebec, New Brunswick, PEI (love it there) and Nova Scotia. Never made it to Newfounland although I'd love to go!
I'm heading out to Victoria in July (for 5 days) to find a place to leave. But hopefully I'll get to know "the west" during my three years there.
Looking forward to it! ;D

I live in Atlantic Canada and it is indeed beautiful. But I'm biased ;D Seriously, Cape Breton Island was named (by National Geographic no less) as one of the top places in the world to visit. It tied with the South Island of New Zealand for second place behind the Fjords of Norway. Newfoundland, particularly Gros Morne National Park, should not be missed. While there I took a boat into the Western Brook Fjords, sea kayaked and had a Moose eat supper with me...and that was just one day! I just returned from spending a weekend in PEI. It's a great place if you like surf and sand, but not so big for hiking and sight seeing. If you want to relax with a beer on a beach though..it can't be beat. Well...I could rattle on some more, but if anyone ever wants to learn more about visiting this area I'd love to tell you all about it
