I have a link here to the Country Travel Report compiled by the Canadian Consular Affairs office. It really is an amazing site. You can select whatever country you are visiting and be presented with basic information about travel too and from the country, important laws and customs, recent travel advisories, etc. It's also very up to date. I highly recommend you checking it out. Keep in mind, of course, that the site is designed for Canadian travellers and some of the information wouldn't necessarily pertain to citizens of other counties. Information for travelling with your same-sex spouse for instance. Anyway...take a look at it! www.voyage.gc.ca/dest/ctry/reportpage-en.asp#E

Libby, thanks for posting that link. That's a great source of reference information. I"m curious about one point though regarding the information on Italy. The site says that travellers (Canadians?) must report to a Police station of something within eight days and get some kind of permit to stay in the country. Has anyone here ever had to do that???
Cheers!!!

Eagle, what happens is that your hotel or hostel takes care of this for you. That's why, when you go to Italy, the hotel wants to hold onto your passport for a little while, so they can fill out this form and submit it to the police. If you happened to be staying in an apartment or villa or something, you might have to do this on your own.
