Well, I'm just too excited, I can't contain myself! My boyfriend and I are seriously discussing going to Europe again next summer! It seems we just didn't get our "fill" of Europe this last summer!
I decided to post this in the Living Room instead of Pre-Travel Planning, because we're only as far as saying "Okay, we're gonna go" but we haven't really talked about how long, or where to... but I just had to share my news! I can tell that soon my daily thoughts are going to be consumed with thoughts of Europe, just like before my last trip!
Ooooh! I'm so excited! Alrighty, well I guess in the next few months I'll be ready and posting with thoughts and questions! Thanks for sharing my joy with me! ;D

Well, after spending 6 weeks in Italy, I must say that was my favorite country by far, and we are definitely going to go back! I loved practically every inch of countryside and city that I saw! Honestly, it's so hard to choose between all the cities we saw... I can say that our least favorite city was Madrid... Our top favorites would probably be Florence, Rome, Amalfi, Barcelona, San Sebastian, Paris and Brugge. Hahaha, I told you it was hard to pick! But of course, all the cities we visited were enchanting and magical for different reasons! Thinking back about our experience, and knowing we are going back is making me so giddy right now! Hahaha! I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning to arrive! ~Michelle

Michelle, what did you dislike about Madrid?
I don't think you'll go wrong whatever places you choose.
Is it possible a winter trip would work for you - you'd get to see Europe in a different light (so to speak) then?

On the subject of madrid ,it wasa also my least favorite city I really can't pinpoint exactly why, there's many reasons i didn't like it. First it was the last city i visited so maybe i was just too tired to appreciate it. Second it seemed very dirty and not charmingly dirty as some other old cities. Third, being from latin america it reminded me much of home and it seemed ridiculous to have traveled so far and spend so much to see some of the same architecture and features i had seen all my life as a child in peru. Fouth , the food for me was atrocious! it was my least fave as well. It's very weird cuz madrid is actually the city where i spent the most time(3 days) so i had time to explore it a bit more than other cities. Take into consideration i had been in a tour for a month so maybe i was just exhausted.

I'm interested to hear this, even if we are going to Madrid in August for a grand total of about 72 hours (1 day at the beginning, 2 days at the end). We are just going to see the art we want to look at, and hang out, and recover from jet lag. But it's safe to say I don't expect anything so grand as Rome, for example.

Michelle, it's great to hear that you're planning another trip to Europe. When you say "next summer", do you mean Summer 2006? BTW, I haven't seen many posts from you lately, so was wondering how you were doing.
It's interesting that Italy was your favourite country. I've been doing an informal poll of European travellers lately, and when I ask "what was your favourite country", the answer has been ITALY every time! I'll be attending the Rick Steves travel festival next week, and am really looking forward to the "Italy" seminar!
Get busy with your trip planning and keep us posted! Cheers!!!

I think Italy is my favorite country too, although that's not to slight any of the others. But I do have a very strong pull to go back there.

I'm surprised to hear that Madrid ranks so low in everyone's lists. I actually really enjoyed Madrid. Amazing art. I also enjoyed the park and watching people row in the fake lake full of goldfish. Mind you at that point of my trip I hadn't yet hit Italy so I couldn't compare them properly.

You can add me to the list of people who love italy. It's hands down my fave country. I also speak pretty good italian so i feel a lot more comfortable than in other parts Then again spanish is my native language and that didn't help at all in me liking madrid
