well first helps to know which cities you want to hit. then its easier to decide if you should be trying for bus plane or train...

There are ferries from Barcelona to Ibiza with Trasmediterránea and Baleária. You could then get the ferry back to Valencia. One problem with Ibiza though, it's only any good in late May, June, July and August - if you're going at any other time then there's not much point.
Out of Granada or Seville I'd do Seville. I've been to both a few times and I think there's more to see/do in Seville, whilst Granada just really has the Alhambra.

I think there's more to see/do in Seville, whilst Granada just really has the Alhambra. but the Alhambra is *the* great building of Moorish Europe! if that interests you, it'd be worth it to get to Granada, too. - d

Since I am currently in Valencia, having just left Seville, Cordoba, and Grenada I have to assert that there is much more to Grenada than 'just the Alhambra'.....but I will agree that overall Seville offered more to see and do. For both Spain and Portugal I will stress that you need to plan your route and transportation carefully in advance if on a limited time frame. Trains are few and far between....and slow....and buses, while the better option, also offer limited runs and slower journeys-however 90% of the time they are way better than trying to use the trains!

hmm buses better than trains good to know. it seems the rail thru portugal and spain only allows you to actually use it 3 days out of 2 months time, we'll be doing alot more travel than that. we are going august 7th -21st. Im having a hard time finding ferry info- it seems the dates are to far out to book a ferry or a website wont switch over to english for me. if possible we would like to sleep on the 9 hours ferry ride from barcelona to ibiza if its a night trip. thanks for your input thus far:)
