Chatted with netson last night....and he totally promised me that as soon as he was able to get online he would drop a line to let me know how he was. And I threatened him with my best 'Mom shaking her finger".! Emailed him this morning about 0500...no reason to think he was up then.....and reminded him to check in as soon as he can.
Assuming they get the power back on I am hopeful we will hear from him soon. It's starting to move on out and the worst appears at this hour to be almost done.

Still no word from Doug....I am assuming his power is out. With nearly everything all packed up now I can't locate his phone number or I would just call. Hopefully he will check in soon!

Found it! But just rang and rang and never went to voicemail...after about 12 rings just disconnected. Maybe the towers are out???

Not sure...but cell phone is the only number I have. And half a dozen email addys...none of which have garnered a response thus far.  1910....have been calling every half hour or so...phone just disconnects. Will feel so much better once we have heard from our south FL members! |

Just tried to call him again...if it had gone through he'd likely not have been too pleased to have me calling before the sun is even up  ....but the same as last night...12 rings and disconnect. This morning they are saying 6 million (!) are out of power, 98% of the population in south Florida (!) and it could take as long as a month to get it back. Holy Moley!!!! Sheesh...I am 5 hours away and have power. Maybe he'll just get in the car and drive till he can get his cell to connect and come here. Frankly...I don't expect we are going to hear from any of them soon...which just leaves that big 'worry' thing going on here. Oh, and he told me the night before it hit that if things did get too bad he'd just go to his parents, approx 2 hours away. But from what I can find, they don't have power either. Our Doug may well be stuck in his 17th floor apartment, powerless! |

Success!! His cell phone just came back on and I got him! He is fine, no power of course but his parents do have it so he is heading up there this afternoon. And...he was in the process he said of packing up his computers! I knew it!  His apt flooded...and he is on the 11th, not the 17th floor....but he is on the 11TH floor and flooded! But he says he saved everything and is fine. He will post once he gets to his parents and can get back on. And he says he got some fabulous pictures! Whew! Glad that worry is over. ging |

pics of S. Fla show high rises w/ windows blown out. if windows are gone a *LOT* of rain can blow in - especially when the rain is blowing sideways at 200kph! perhaps that's where the "flood" came from?  |
