We have a cold front! [doing the happy dance] Ok, so the low is only in the 50s, but still, for most people in SoFla that's subzero! It's in the 60s right now and I've got every window open! YAY!

xandra, just to confirm the temperature you posted: -52 C??? That's DARN COLD! I imagine when it gets that cold, you do the same with your vehicles as we do in northern B.C. -- leave them running all the time (except when inside the garage at night).
Here in the Okangan it doesn't usually get that cold, although we did have a week of -30C in the winter of '98 (some kind of "Siberian Express" or something, from what I recall). The Plumbers and the Tow Trucks were extremely busy!
Doug, hope you're back to normal after the Hurricanes. Enjoy the warm weather!!!

I had the first precipitation of my trip last night and today. SNOW! About 10 cm overnight and it has been snowing most of the day today. It´s -3 with a good stiff 20mph wind. It is damn cold here in Germany troday. Most folks not looking too happy about the snow....I´m grinning like a cheshire cat!

David, you get that channel? Funky! It's really sad when it gets so cold elsewhere cause not everyone is equipped like we are! We had our first big snowfall last night, which wasn't much, it was only 10-15 cm! But god was it winding this morning...ouch! I've gone through -50 celcius quite a few times too. It's not so bad. Here we plug our cars so it keeps the block warm (if we can say warm in that case...) and most of the times the cars start. If they don't, they end up starting around lunch with the sun! AHHHH COLD!

David, you get that channel? Funky! Jen, go to www.tagesschau.de/ down the left side of the screen, in the darker blue box, click on "Letzte Sendung," set your preferences under "Treffen Sie Ihre Auswahl" in the middle - white area, then click the "Video starten" button. there are options for other news shows. [i'm posting this so others can watch, too]

yep, from watching the news in German of course I have gathered that this was a much worse storm than I originallz thought. Dont need to be able to understand all they are saying to look at the film and see it has been one utter mess! Apparentlz there was a fairly substantial ice storm prior to the snow starting in. Did not affect me, other than the cold of course. In Eisenbach today, just got down from the Wartburg! Details to follow....this net cafe is 1 euro for 15 minutes so not posting to the blog right now!
sheesh...these keyboards with the z and y reversed are making me nuts!

just watched more German news on the web. the weather situation is pretty bad.
thousands of cars & trucks are stuck on the highways, the red cross is taking blankets & hot drinks to the folks stuck in the vehicles. some 250 000 people are without power in Münsterland due to ice weighing down high-voltage cables past the stretch point. (an area where i studied for a semester) and several trains are unable to run, leaving passengers stranded. [hotels are all full, so many are staying at emergency shelters]
it said Netherlands is having the worst Winter storm in years, Paris is having so much snowfall the Eiffel tower is closed and even parts of England are getting snowed under.
so, i'm really glad Ginger has manage to miss the weather trouble.

btw, the forcast said southern part of former GDR, Dresden area, has the best chance for pleasant weather in the next days.

i hated those keyboards too! worse was the ones in belgium which had w, a, s, and i think q moved around... nutty it's fairly easy to adjust a PC to use the US keyboard. it's in the Windows settings. i'm sure someone with more tech knowledge can explain it.
never tried this at a cyber café. several of them had machines adjusted for US keyboard layout - but still had Spanish or Italian keyboards, you just had to know which keys were what.
oh, many on the European keyboards lacked the @ sign, which made email difficult. one had to use Alt + 64 to get @, i think that was the code.
