...seem to have fallen in love with many of the 'off the tourist radar' towns in Germany! who knew? There is so much more to this country than Fussen and Rothenburg! You all will soon tire of the two of us extolling the glories of northern Germany....but if you visit you will soon see that we are right. It isn't just Bavaria! Jules, you must add this country to your next visit overseas. It is terrific!

It's super greasy! even the vegetables are smothered with sauces and the like which take away their fresh flavor. I much prefer fresher food but that's just me and my sensitive stomach. I think I have an aversion to overly greasy food, whenever I eat too much of it my stomach really doesn't like it

Ging, love this thread Love to be the German lover! I'm so looking forward to visiting some off the map towns in April-August Well, I like German food, generally. I'm not a fan of Sauerkraut or Wurst (sausages) but I must say, I never complained. They are quite like Canada I guess, a bit of everything. Ging, did you taste the Grüne Soße? That was my FAVORITE! Handkäse mit Musik? (Ya, hand cheese with music! Cause you fart after...nice name huh?) Marzipan...HUMMMMMMMMMM! I guess their desserts are great! And bread! And sandwiches. OH LORDY, Ging, keep me posted or I'll die waiting xoxo Jen

it sucks but i don't really like beer perhaps you haven't been exposed to the good stuff. actually, the best "german" beer comes from Czech Republic! most german beer is the light colored Pils type beer which was 1st brewed in Plzen, Bohemia (German name Pilsen). but, there are also good dark beers. oh, also try Weißbier, aka Hefeweizen! it's different. you might like it. [Erdinger is my favorite brewery for this. also good as a dark. <Weißbier also means "white beer." a little ironic to order a dark "white beer."] German wine is also tops! Rhein wine, Mosel wine, it's all good. - d

Count me as among the german food lovers! I think it is the best to be found! Zweiblerostbraten, rahmschnitzel, pfeffersteak. What in the hell were you eating gal? And David, don't forget altbeer and lager, and the seasonal flavored beers! I adore German food! And like sauerkraut, but have to admit I do have a problem with many of the wursts. Wine? Reisling is to swoon over!

If you don't like German food, there's also great Turkish and Italian food, at least in Berlin.

I did like german beer a lot, and I"m not a beer drinker again because of my sensitive stomach. I drank lots of beer in germany, I then suffered for it but it was worth it!
