I got to meet my 2 cousins that I've never met before!! (the crazy part is that their 17 & 19 and I'm 21 & we've never seen each other) can't imagine a better gift, Alex! divorce can really mess up families. my sister was divorced from her 1st husband, not her choice, and now i hear some from my nephew about his father's family. it's strange that these people with whom we'd celebrated holidays, and about whom we now hear stories, i never see anymore. - d

xandra, getting to meet your relatives is an awesome gift! Hopefully you'll be able to keep in touch with them. You're close to the same age, so I'm sure you'll find lots in common with them.
stanncie, it was interesting to learn that your home country is Peru. Isn't that where Macchu Pichu is located? My son and daughter-in-law are planning on visiting there, so I might have some questions for you.
David, I agree, divorce can certainly mess up families! Unfortunately, my Sons haven't seen much of their Mom or her family for several years, which is unfortunate. The main reason for the lack of visits is that we're separated by some distance, so it's not "easy" to get together on a regular basis. However, everything is quite amicable between us, so hopefully they'll get a chance to see the relatives some time in the future.
Update on gifts: A couple of DVD's (Heartbreak Ridge and Rules of Engagement) and some "kitchen accessories" (don't ask, it's a long story!). I also had the opportunity to go out for a fantastic Christmas dinner at the home of my Son's mother-in-law and that was almost like a gift too! I still haven't had chance to try out the new d-SLR to any extent, but will try and work on it a bit today (i've been trying to recover from an injury, so have been resting a lot).
Hope that everyone is enjoying their Christmas so far, and not suffering too many adverse effects from excessive celebrating.
Best wishes to all of you for a fantastic New Year, and many happy travels in 2006!!!

An electric shaver WOW! hahaha took me 25 minutes less to do my legs and it's a perfect job! somehow, i'd been under the impression that shaved legs on women was a strictly American thing. i've certainly never inspected womens legs in other countries - which actually sounds like an interesting job - but have long thought this to be a uniquely American obsession. do Canadian women shave legs & underarms, too? - d

In general, yes.
My impression is that most women in Europe, at least younger urban ones, now do so also.

Ok, so this may not have been funny a few days ago, but I found this hilarious tonight. It's from an article about Canadians making it into Guinness.

Stanncie, thanks for the offer to help with advice on Peru. As soon as my Son arrives in the U.S., I'll have a better idea on what questions to ask (he's just waiting for his landed immigrant permit or other "official document", and can't enter the U.S. until that's in place).
All the best for 2006!!!

I got a couple DVD's and that's about it, so I think I'm gonna have to go the same route as Eagle and buy myself something I'm looking for a new Fender Stratocaster, so that'll be a 'gift' to myself for being a good boy this year.
