So, i'm on vacation this week and my sister asked me to cover for her for two days at her office where she is a receptionist. It's a small office and she's worked there for years and it's very laid back. So I go and it can't be that bad ri ght? Well, wrong!!!!!!!! How do people do this day in and day out? First of all the phone constantly ringing is sooo annoying! People are so rude on the phone too and want help immediately. Second, how can one stand sitting in a chair for 8 hours? I'm telling you it's not natural! I left with excruciating back pain and all of my muscles were tense for holding a position for so long. this is despite the fact that I stood up many times and walked around the office where people looked at me like I was nuts for doing laps lol! It was a very claustrophobic experience too being stuck in that desk and chair for the whole day. So yeah, i'm not doing that ever again! I worked as a waitress before I became a PT so i've never worked in an office or anything of the sort. I went home afterwards played DDR for a while till I was exhausted and then took a hot bath and felt semi-normal again. So yeah whoever works in an office god bless you cuz I couldn't do it

Stanncie, I can really appreciate the problems you had with your "day at the office". My job involves sitting in front of computers for 12 hours, and some days the darn phones ring incessantly for the entire shift!
The discomfort you experienced with the Chairs if probably at least partially due to the fact that these were not properly designed (probably a standard "secretarial" chair?). The Chairs we use are supposedly "orthopaedically designed" and are not too bad, even when sitting for extended periods of time. We're able to get up and move around if not occupied, so I suppose that helps.
BTW, saw the Surgeon on the 18th, and he's ordered another four weeks of complete rest (with NO weight bearing) before we even think about Physio. Sure hope I'll be able to travel with no recurring problems???
Hopefully your sister won't ask you to "sub" for her too often!
Cheers!!!

Hehehhe Stanncie, I'll take it as a compliment! I am a translator's assistant, sitting all day and was a receptionnist before that for 3 years. Ok, it's not a career plan for me, but still, working in an office is something i like hehehe

Tell me about it, I don't know HOW people sit there all day and do that. I'm mean and evil to the people I physically interact with at the store, I can't imagine how much more evil I can be over the phone! ;D Really though, my Mom used to work in an office like that, sitting at a desk all day...I went in with her ONCE, and I was ready to leave within the hour! I dunno HOW she does it!

Hahahahah I like fussy people on the phone. I was a receptionnist handling 400 calls a day 5 days a week Evenings and weekends most of the time. So trust me, people are god darn fussy, but it's fun, cause you get to be politely rude back to them hahaha

I sit at a desk all day too unfortunately. I'm pretty restless usually, but I guess you just get used to it after a few YEARS Speaking of offices, anyone here watch "The Office"? Specifically the UK version? Funny stuff right there.

Jenn and Patrick: you are my new heroes! lol Everyone else: I'm glad some of you can relate, i thought I was just weird for feeling so trapped in. Let me tell you I'd rather wait tables for sure, It's exhausting from what I can remember but at least you are moving around! hehe Patrick I've seen the office but the US version, it's very funny indeed

yes lots of coffe was consumed at this office. I don't drink coffee at all cuz i've never really liked it and anyways I'm hyper enough as it is, with coffee added I think I would be impossible to tolerate
