just saw that this is on PBS tonight. looks like it might be interesting. [provided they've sacked that annoying host]

David, from what I remember, the Rome City Guide is hosted by Estelle Bingham, although lately on Pilot Guides they have broken the shows into segments, with a different host for each segment. I've seen most of the episodes (both old & new) so am fairly familiar with the various hosts and the content of the shows.
I kind of enjoy the way Estelle presents the shows, but it will be interesting to hear your impressions (although she didn't exactly look comfortable with the Belly Dancing lessons on the "Turkey" show!).
It's possible that the episode you see tonight will be one of the older episodes, but I still find them interesting (hey, I'll watch anything that covers travel in Italy!).
Cheers!!!

it was older. John Paul was still pope.
don't remember the host's name. she was an attractive darker skinned woman w/ a British sounding accent. [might it have been a Caribbean accent?]

That sure sounds like Estelle. She's quite attractive (IMHO) and has a British accent (haven't read her Bio lately, but I believe she's from the U.K.?). The episode sounds like the same one I've seen many times, as John Paul was shown.
Did you find it interesting?

yes, it was interesting. not all that useful, spent too much time on things of little interests. fashion in particular. Fellini as well.
Faulty Towers hostel played a role in the show, too.

David, I agree, there were some aspects of the show that didn't interest me either. Maybe they tried to cover Rome with a "wide focus" so as to appeal to as many types of travellers as possible?
I was interested to see the Fawlty Towers Hostel though. I noticed that it's now listed in the "Italy 2006" RS Guidebook. Sounds like a decent place, and if I can't get a room at The Beehive, I'll consider FT (it's also close to Termini).

WT, thanks for posting that! I hadn't looked at Fawlty Towers too closely yet, but hopefully their management will also see these reviews!
