I know we have a lot of american friends on this board and was just wondering how the redevelopment of New Orleans is coming along after the hurricane.
As with all news it seems to have slipped out of the limelight over here. New orleans was somewhere i was desperate to visit and i hope it's begining to find it's feet again.

New Orleans is in a bad way. the crescent city is focused on Jazzfest & the mayor election rather than preparations for hurricane season, starting June 1st.
Ray Nagin thinks he deserves reelection, even after his disastrous performance before, during & after Hurricane Katrina hit.

That's really crappy to hear. I would hope that a tragedy like Katrina would stop people being selfish and band together as a community. Oh dear - how naive do i sound. I hope they have done enough to minimise the risks for this year. I still really want to visit but will have to save lots of pennies before i can hop across the pond!

i'd agree with that! north america has some beautiful places, too. Padre Island, San Antonio & Big Bend (TX) in early Springtime or late Fall, Trail Ridge Road (CO) in the Summer. Victoria (BC) in Summertime. there are lots of places well worth seeing on our continent. - d new orleans is also on my list of things to see. california too. and NYC again. i love that city! and western canada and PEI... only atlantic province i've yet to hit.

Julie, would the fluvial geomorpholgy of canyons interest you? the Grand Canyon and, to a lesser extent, Palo Duro Canyon, aka "The Grand Canyon of Texas," might also be interesting.

yes, i'd love to see the grand canyon one day. the idea of the mississippi facinates me more tho. its ENORMOUS and so dynamic! the st-lawrence is enormous, too. but completely stable. very little sediment transport and almost non-existant bank erosion. rivers are just cool and there is the slight possibility that i am a geek Jules

Y'all make it sound like that's a bad thing. Nah, it's a good thing! When I worked in a high school the kids called me 'King Geek', so it's not like I can make fun of anyone or anything..... [goes back to packing his comics for his move...]
