so, Jules' 1st day of work in Memorial Day. but, an American holiday about remembering our war dead probably doesn't mean much in Canada.

in USA, 11/11 is Veterans Day, when all veterans are recognized. not a holiday because it's too close to Thanksgiving. Memorial Day is recognition of those specifically killed in service. unfortunately, to most, these are just a long weekend. the meanings have been lost, for many. ours is the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month... but its not a statutory holiday either!

I beg to differ with you David! Veterans day, 11 November, is indeed a FEDERAL US Holiday. Just try to go to a bank, post office, or school on that day. And, unless I am mistaken, it is one that is NOT moved to the Monday ever, it is the 11th, period. Read this for a wonderful op-ed on remembering what the holidays is for: www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=052606Eging

Jules,
Rememberance Day / Nov. 11 is a stat. holiday in B.C. I always get a paid day off on that day. I thought it was the same in every Province in Canada?

I just got the first good news of the day, they're letting us go home early because of the strike now, haha. Makes it seem like kind of a waste though to come in for only half the day... but whatever.
