The German title is Das Leben der Anderen. This is about 1984-era East Berlin, and the constant surveillance that so many of its citizens were under.
I saw this movie last night and it's excellent, although disturbing. If your trip plans include Germany, or even if they don't, I'd suggest seeing it.

Was the movie on TV or in the Theatres? I'll try and watch for it in my local area.

It's in the theatres. The film won a bunch of awards - well-deserved in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see if the movie EVER makes it here? There is a local film society here that brings in "unusual" movies, so I'll watch for it. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, that's correct. The movie featured, among other things, the Hohenschönhausen prison in northeast Berlin. I looked up the web site which is quite interesting: en.stiftung-hsh.de/I'm not sure if I can handle a visit or not, though. Here's the movie web site (in German): www.movie.de/filme/dlda/

I love the movie! I saw it in Freiburg when it first came out last April in Germany. I just saw it again here. It has made it's way to Canada without a problem, i'm sure it iwll come your way

Good call WT (WillTravel, the WT as opposed to World2002Traveller! ;D Sorry W2T), it's an amazing film. If you want a different take on East Germany (specifically East Berlin) just before and after the fall of the Wall, watch Goodbye Lenin! too. Totally opposite to Das Leben des Anderen, but still an interesting insight.
I can vouch for that surveillence too - scary when you realised your residence was being monitored.

Yeah, sadly, true facts.
Goodbye Lenin is really good, although a little more "americany". Das Leben der Anderen is truly different. It's a new way of depicting that era and it's well made!
