Yep, David is correct. Depending on what type of Winter it's been, sometimes there'll be the odd snowfall down lower, but just to coat the ground, nothing major.
A few mountains I've visited that have snow pretty much all year round (so definitely in April) are Mount Titlis (near Engelberg), the Jungfrau (near Lauterbrunnen/Wengen), Schilthorn (above Murren and Gimmelwald) and the Matterhorn.
Where were you planning on being for the snow and any particular reason?

Hi again, not really a big deal - it would just be so that we could say we have actually seen snow! Like up close I mean. We haven't decided wehre in Switzerland we are going to go yet though but its between Lucerne and Geneve at this stage. Acutally thats another thing we are open to suggestions about, which would be the best city? We have 2 full days there (excluding the day we arrive and the day we leave)

Thought that might be the case chelle84, hence my question. And don't think that it's "no big deal" to see snow, especially if you've not experienced it before - the first time you actually see snow will be amazing!
If you do a search on the boards, you'll find that most people will recommend Luzern over Geneva, however to really experience Switzerland you'll find many recommendations for a place called Gimmelwald, which is about 2hours 45mins (give or take trains and cable cars) travel from Luzern, near places like Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Stechelberg, etc. I love Luzern, beautiful scenery, and it's a good base if you were thinking of taking a day trip up one of the mountains nearby. However, if you want to experience the mountains up close, consider (if it fits into your travel plans) going to a place like Gimmelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Engelberg or even Wengen and staying for a night or two. They are all within easy distance to mountains and are as picturesque as each other. Have a look at www. myswitzerland.com. for some ideas of where they lie and what they offer, but do a search of these boards for some more inspiration. Bear in mind that going up one of the mountains on the train/cable car will cost a bit as railways etc in Switzerland are all privatised. Check on the websites for each place, that will help you budget a bit more.
Yours in snowflakes! ;D

Hey again - don't get me wrong it will be awesome to see snow!! The only reason its not a real big deal is that I know we are there at the wrong time of the year for it and no doubt I will at some stage like to visit Europe in winter. And also it is our first time in Europe so there is going to be heaps of things going on lol!! Thanks for all your help though these message boards are really good!!

That you are going at the end of April will not say that there will be no snow falling in Switzerland. I mean, it is rare, but I can remember summer vacations with my family in Austria (in July and August), when it snowed in the mountains above 1800m.
On one occasion, we had to delay the trip for one day, because we wanted to pass the Silvretta-pass, and it was closed because of heavy snowfall. When it was open the day later, we were throwing snowballs in the middle of the summer, and having a nice cup of hot chocolate.
I don't want to get your hopes up, but maybe you are lucky. You will see snow for sure, the only problem will be to get close enough. If you really want to see snow and ice, get to the Aletsch-gletsjer in Switzerland. It is near to Brig (might be a bit out of the way for you). You can make a tour across the glacier with a guide.
