Hello,
I will be spending the following:
* Dubai (2 nights budget hotel) * UK & Ireland (12 nights = 9 nights hostels, 3 nights B&B's) * Western Europe (28 nights , all in hostels) * Eastern Europe (4 nights, all in hostels) * Singapore (2 nights, budget hotel)
We will be mostly in smaller dorms, but if we are in a place that has cheaper privates (eg, Eastern Europe) we will be in them.
Do you think a budget of AUD $10,000 (US $7,645) is sufficient for meals, accommodation, entrance fees, sightseeing money, travel around towns (eg, bus), spending money? That is AUD $166 per day (US $127) including pretty much everything.
We have already paid for Eurail, flights, travel insurance and car hire.
Trish ;D

it looks good to me. I spent around 70-100 US dollars per day. I went to a a fair bit of museums, musical performances and never deprived myself of at least one decent meal. We stayed at hostels throughout. This was in london and western europe only. I think since you are also going to cheaper places it should be more than sufficient money.

thanks for that! I am freaking out that I won't have enough and will be banished to the hostel not being able to go anywhere!

I assume that's a per-person amount?
The part that concerns me is the parking and petrol costs. I know you have paid for the car hire already, but figure out how much that will cost. The prices to park in major cities are beyond ridiculous!

If you are doing all of this as a 'driving' trip then you may have problems. Have you tried to very generally figure out how many miles you will be driving and looked into petrol costs in the area at present?

Petrol costs are sky high at the moment. In the UK you are looking at the best part of £1 a litre at the moment, and I can't see it falling that much.
Even in poorer European countries fuel can be disproportionately expensive. At the moment I'm in Portugal and it's about €1.30 a litre for unleaded. Definitely factor these costs into your budget.

We're driving round Ireland in a Ford Fiesta...not all the way around, just from Dublin-Belfast-Galway-across to Dublin again...

People I met from England while I was in Paris told me that if you rent a car, watch out... it runs something like $8 USA per gallon.
