I haven't used them, but from what I've read about the fees, they don't seem like a good deal.

Yep...the interest and fees they charge are horrid! If you want to go a 'prepaid route....best bet is just dump it in your checking account and use your ATM as you go, otherwise pre-load your day to day card and go with that. The prepaid things are interest 'hell'!
Use your debit card...even with useage fees it is 99% your best bet!

Sorry to ressurect this from the dead......
Just got a Visa Cash Passport. Is that what you're reffering to in the aforementioned posts. I also have a Visa Debit card and should be gettin a Mastercard debit card soon. My debit cards charge $5AUD per overseas atm withdrawl and 2.5% conversion fee. The Cash Passport does the converison at once (AUD to EUR) at 1% and the fees are $3.75AUD/ 2.2Euro(cards in euro) per atm withdrawl.
I figure take out money every 4 days, and use the debit cards online for purcahses/store purchases.
Found one post about the Visa Cash Passport that said it was good. Anyfeedback on this guys???
Cheers in advance Anth

in my opinion i think traveler's check is a better deal in the long run. i went to europe last may and used my bank of america check card and i regret doing it. they charge me for overseas transaction fees and then the conversion fee. i know you won't get a good rate with traveler's check but it's still better in the long run. i'd still carry a check card for emergencies though.
