I'm heading off in February to backpack Europe. Flying into London. Doing France, Germany and Italy for sure. Perhaps other countrys if time permits. I'm flying over with apx. $6000 dollars Canadian. Keep in mind that I do have a few locations within Germany as well as France to stay so for a portion of the trip I won't be paying for Hostels every night.
How far do you think this will get me? Is it best for me to buy an open ticket or should I have a set date of maybe..3 months? give or take.

I think 2 months, 3 months at the most if you've done a lot of research in terms of costs (advance tickets, booked accomodations, etc).

Thanks. I'm in the midst of planning out an Itinerary. I think 2 months would be sufficient enough to see and do what I'd like in those Countries.

P.S. I think it's more expensive to buy an open ticket with no set return date. Plan out your itinerary and you can usually determine if it's worth purchasing an open-jaw ticket or a return ticket

That's generally the case, but I have heard of people getting open returns for only an extra $75 or so, which could be worth it. This is more likely if you are a student.
$6000 CDN is about 4000 Euros. Does this amount include your airfare and railpasses or rail tickets?

Doesn't include airfare. It will include railpasses. ( Im leaning towards the 15 Days in 2months pass)

Don't buy a rail pass unless you plan out the itinerary. Sometimes P-2-P tickets are all you need and there's lots of cheap flights. Italian trains are really cheap that a pass is worthless.
