Q: Should I buy a phone card before I go to Europe?
My opinion? No, don't bother. You can buy phone cards with very reasonable rates from places like convenience stores, grocery stores and newstands once you get over there.
Each card is only good for that country, so if you are leaving the country in a few days and don't plan on making lots of calls, be sure to buy a small amount.
Also, in places like Belgium, look for phone stores. Basically, they are rooms with individual phone booths where you sit and make your calls and they give you a final total at the end. Rates are usually excellent and are posted on the windows so you can see them before going in.
