I'm going to Switzerland, Spain, and Italy in Jan. Any suggestions on what clothes I should bring? I really would like to bring just one jacket. Is that possible? Also.. do I have to worry about hostels filling up, even though it is in Jan? THANKS!!

This is a good question - one I'd love to hear the answer to! I'm a dressy kind of girl, and I'm hoping to make it through with pants, wool jumper and a lined jacket. Sound okay? And can anyone tell me if it is likely to snow in France/Italy in Dec/Jan?

Hostels will definately be busy around New Years. Also, some hostels, like the one in Manarola in Cinque Terre, tend to be pretty steady all year round.
If you tell us what cities you are going to, we might be able to give you a better idea. Also, maybe we can recommend some hostels as well.

Thanks for replying guys! In Switzerland I will be going to Zurich and Geneva. I don't plan on spending too much time there, But my boyfriend and I do want to do a couple days of snowboarding somewhere. If anyone knows of any areas I would be so grateful... I'm not to sure about Spain. I've never been there, but I will probably be going to Barcelona, Madrid, and towns bordering France. In Italy I'll be traveling down the riviera, into Rome and back up through the eastern coastline, ( not sure yet). I would LOVE some suggestions for any cities along the way! Rachel

Having been to Australia (where Kim B is from), I can answer the wool jumper question.. it's a wool sweater.
Funny how here a jumper would be a dress but there it's a sweater! ;D
