Hello, I've been never been to Europe and I was wondering is it possible to sleep three people in a double room? I am travelling with two others. In Australia whenever I go somewhere and get a double room - even at really cheap places - there have either been two double beds or one double and a couch or a single bed that a third person could sleep on. Is this the same in Europe? If anyone out there has travelled with two or more people and stayed in a double room it would be great to get a response.

I haven't travelled with a 3rd person but I have stayed in doubles all over Europe and you won't be able to have a third person unless you get a triple room.
Basically, it will be like you discribed-either 3 single beds, one double and a single etc. only you will pay more than you would for a double.
Most of the time you are charged per person for double rooms, so if you are looking at prices you want to clarify whether it is per room or per person.

back in '99, i travelled w/ mis padres for 2 weeks while in Spain/Portugal, as well as a week on my own. while with them we stayed 3 in a double room. an extra bed was rolled into the room on which i could sleep.
the extra charge ranged from 6 500 pesetas/night. but, we were in high dollar places: Paradores & Pousadas. a lot of that exra charge was undoubtedly for the big breakfasts.
The week i was on my own, i stayed in hostels (or was on overnight trains). if you were to stay in dorms at hostels, the number in your party wouldn't matter. but, a triple room might even be cheaper than 3 dorm beds at a hostel, no???
Good Luck!

2 in a dorm bed would be tight. you'd need to be really good friends Also, if breakfast is part of the deal, one of you wouldn't be able to eat there. Personally, in that case i'd opt for both to eat elsewhere - which would up the overall costs; wouldn't it? - d
