Hi! I'll be a first-time traveler (female & solo) to Europe next month (yay!). This website & message board are really helpful! Keep up the good work.
I hope my question isn't too laughable, but where do you get changed in a hostel? In the room with everyone else? Bathroom stall?

It's really your preference but normally it would be in the shower stall after you get out of the shower.
The bathroom might be a fair distance away from your room so you wouldn't neccessarily want to walk all that way in a towel. (Or at least I wouldn't!)
That's why it's good to bring a toiletry bag-everything is all in there and you just grab it with your towel and clothes.
If you are having to get up early or in the middle of the night and don't want to make enemies, set your things out so they are ready to go so you don't have to rummage through everything. Rustling through plastic bags is especially a no-no in hostels.
Ok, so I got a little off topic...!

Kim's right, but assumes that you are talking only about the dormrooms in a hostel. Hostels usually offer dorm rooms (rooms with multiple people sleeping in one room) and also usually offer rooms that are singles, doubles, triples and maybe even quads. These other types of rooms cost more than a dorm, but do offer privacy. If you have extra cash and are worried about privacy, you can always get a single room (you will be the only person in the room). Expect to pay 2-3 times more for a single room than for a dormroom.
