The most famous hostel in Athens is probably Aphrodite. In general I found it to be a good place to meet people with a nice bar in the basement - 12 Einardou Street – Tel: +30 1 8839249, FAX: +30 1 8816574. However, Aphrodite has no air conditioning and gets really uncomfortably hot.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for my next visit to Athens?

in answer to your question: don't go in the summer when it's hot out?

How long is the summer in Athens? I think it's from May to September, isn't it?

i worked at the aphrodite last year and yes it is awesome! You HAVE TO meet the New Zealand chick that tends the bar, her name is Sue and makes everyone feel welcome. You will be happy to know that the place was also renovated over the summer, ALL THE ROOMS NOW HAVE AIR CONDITIONING!!! It starts getting warm in Athens around May, July and August can get pretty unbearable during the days with av temp about 33 celcius! But the nights are fabulous and it bascially never ever rains there!!! Gets very busy July and August, best to book ahead.

The down side of Aphrodite hostel is it's location. Quite a long way from the main attractions (Acropolis, Plaka), in a bad neighborhood close to Athens "red district". OTOH, it's as close to the train stations as you can get.
