I'm going to be traveling through Europe durring May-August of 2002. I'm planning on staying in certain places for a week or two at a time. Is there a cheaper way to do this besides paying daily rates at hostels? I am in favor of trading luxury for price, and am expecting the most meager of accomodations (basicly just a safe place to sleep). Any info on places like this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just a thought, maybe, if you know what places you are going, you could check out the tourist office (if they are on the internet) for private rooms, with this I mean rooms/appartments you could hire from people who aren't using them at the time. I know that tourist offices in the Netherlands have a list with these rooms, I could help you find adresses if you know what towns you'll be visiting. Maybe you could negociate a better price, especcially if you're staying longer. But, you are travelling in the peak season, so I don't know if it will work roomwise and pricewise.... good luck!
