Hi all, my first post! Here goes:
I'm torn over which hostel to stay in while in London. I want to "home base" out of one hostel, and I have seen so many choices. I narrowed it down to St. Christopher's Inn - Southbank. Would this be a good choice? Is there a better one? I want to be near a tube so I can get around easy since I am for the most part a largely inexperienced European traveller.
At first I was thinking of going with Museum Inn or The Generator, but after reading some reviews decided against it.
Ahh!! Please help me decide!

I have heard less than positive things about the Generator so I think you are wise giving that one a miss. As long as you are by a tube station in London, you have no worries-it's the greatest transportation system ever! I really liked Camden Town, have you looked at the Camden St. Christophers? It looks cool-I was thinking if we go back we might try it: (Photos here) reservations.bookhostels.com/guideforeurope.com/hostel.php?HostelNumber=505Kim

This was the hostel I stayed in whiile in London. I'd give it a really good recommendation. It's clean, the showers are free, and the staff is really nice there! It's also walking distance from Soho. There's a tube station about 5 blocks east. So that part is covered well. I think they show movies every night or have some kind of special event. They also have Belushi's right there, so if you want a night cap before bed, then you don't even have to get dressed. Just go downstairs! That's all I can think of for now. If there's something I didn't cover in this diatribe, feel free to email me or ask them here. Take care!

Thanks Jenn...I was going through the St. Christopher's Inn guestbook and noticed a lot of people had stayed at the Camden location. It was the Southbank location that you stayed at? Which one would you prefer personally?

I did stay at the Southbank location and would say that I prefer that one since it's only a short tube ride from the center of London and a walk away from some of the best attractions there. But I think in the end it's a matter of preference. I don't know too much about the Camden location.....Kim? Could you fill us on in on that branch of the establishment?

First, I have fixed that link for the Camden Town St. Christophers-sorry about that, didn't realize it was broken.
Honestly, I think you will enjoy yourself at either one. Southbank is the original St. Christophers, Camden opened in 1999.
The Camden rooms, 50 beds in total-2, 6 or 10 beds. The Southbank rooms, 46 beds in total-4, 6 or 8 beds.
I know the Camden 2 and 6 bed rooms have ensuite bathrooms.
Both have pubs on the ground level.
Camden is a cool area and you would be close to the markets, which, even if you don't stay at the Camden one, make sure you check out!

Ah! So torn now!
I wanted to stay at the original because well, it's the original and I hear its close to transport like you said Jenn. But those ensuite bathrooms are awfully tempting, and I hear good things about Camden's atmosphere and location as well...
What a choice! Hmm...will have to think on it some more...
