Hi! I will be traveling through Europe from the beginning of May until the 10th of June. I realize as I go along, it is going to be more and more "in" tourist season. THis is my basic schedule
London- 3days Amsterdam-3 days Berlin - 3 Prague -3 Vienna-2 Venice-3 Florence -3 Rome-4 Cinque Terre - 3 Nice - 3 Paris - 3
My question is - do you think I need to book hostels in every place in advance? Or some and not others? I just don't want to end up with no place to stay, as I am already reealllyy nervous about this trip ( I am traveling alone ). Thanks!

Well i traveled alone last year with no prolems (well almost) for 6 weeks. Had a blast and I think I only booked twice. My first night and then once when i knew i would be getting into the city late at night. Only once or twice did I have to find a different place because my first choice was full.

Your "newname" is too funny! Thanks for changing it-it would have just got incredible confusing for everyone!
About booking hostels, if you are planning to stay in dormitories you will be fine, especially the time of year you are going in.
The only hostel I would recommend booking for is the Ostello 5 Terre (the one in Manarola in Cinque Terre). It's incredibly popular. You have to make a reservation at least a week in advance or they won't accept one. (As in, you couldn't phone two nights before)
The best plan is to phone your next hostel when you arrive in the city before it. For example-you arrive in Florence on Monday-phone Rome on Monday and ask for a reservation for Thursday. That way you have a reservation without having to commit to a set schedule.
Travelling alone is a blast-you will meet tons of people, don't worry!

hey, i did the same sort of trip last year....we booked some of our hostels prior to the trip....it was nice because we had never traveled on our own before and we just wanted to eliminate one worry that we might not find a place, or find a place we couldnt afford....so we booked 4 hostels in advance (london, paris, venice and barcelona), and the rest we kinda played by ear...and when we got to a city we would go to the internet cafe and look for a place to stay....... the time of year that you're going won't really be full force into the tourist season.....we were there until june 26th, and the only city we had trouble finding a place was florence...... if you can't get into the cinque terre hostel, there are people who rent out rooms to people getting off at the train stations....just get there early.....
kim is right, you will meet tons of people!!!! my best experiences last summer were meeting people......it's just so much fun......

I bet you would always find somewhere to stay in each case, but it might be a lot of lugging around suitcases looking for a place to go. (Presumably you can phone, of course, though.)
My preference is to have a set itinerary in advance, but that's a personal decision. You can always alter it later if you prefer, just so you remember to phone up and cancel each time. I'd prefer to have something, and then cancel, rather than have to try to make a reservation at the last minute.
