OK, I was planning to stay at the Beehive for my trip this June, and they're all booked sad! I hadn't researched a lot of different places b/c I had heard such good things about the Beehive. So now I need some more suggestions. We fly in around 9pm on June 11th from London so we can't stay at Gulliver's house b/c you need to check-in by 2pm. We were really hoping to stay around 20$USD for a room hopefully with less than 6 people. Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated!!! ;D

Hi nIcole.,
Same with us....we tried booking the Beehive for May 6th and May 7th and they<re all booked up. We actually reserved 2 nights with Gullivers's House (or whatever it's called). The thing is we are supposed to land at 11:15 am at the Rome airport.....if there are delays and get to the hostel passed 2:00, will it be a problem??? Will they charge us?

Definately email them.. it's not so much that they will charge you, it's that they are not there all the time. You don't want to have flown all that way to stand out on the street. Here's their email: reservations@gullivershouse.comKim

nicole,
yah definently email them.....they seem like they have pretty stiff rules about check in and curfew.....but as long as you let them know in advance about stuff, they are pretty cool about making exceptions (or at least from my experience) they just run a really tight ship, but they're really kind people.....i hope you get to stay there! laura, that works the front desk is really awesome......totally takes care of you, kinda like a mom away from home =)

No offence Nichole, but I'm glad I read your message as I can now learn from your mistake! I'm not planning to go to Europe until next April and am keen to stay at The Beehive Hostel as I have heard so many great things about it as well. I read a suggestion on another forum that said for each place you go, you should have about 5 hostels written down when finding accommodation. I shall do this, but I think in the case of the Beehive I will book ahead of time!! I wondered if anyone had heard of good things about the following hostels in Rome so I can put them down as potentional places should I not be able to stay at The Beehive - Carlito's Way Hostel Red Cheeks Hostel M & J Place Hostel Papa Germanos Would be keen to hear people's opinions! Thanx

The Beehive and Gullivers House are both very popular hostels in Rome, definately reserve in advance. I agree with needing about 5 hostels written down for each, I had written down some and I think it worked out that we didn't stay at any of those! Check out my Hostel Directory for hostel reviews by users on this site-here is the Italy section: members.shaw.ca/guideforeurope/italyhostels.htmlHere's the thing about Carlitos Way Hostel and Hotel.. when I look at their site, they only offer private rooms-either with or without a private bathroom. I'm just curious to how the whole "hostel" thing comes into play! I know their sister hostel is next door (Des Artistes Hostel) but am a little confused on how they are a hostel. Kim

Yeah, the problem is that we will be arriving in Rome at 9pm on a Ryanair flight. This means we really won't be in the position to find a room once we get there, we need a room now! I noticed a lot of places only accept cash for dorm rooms or are all booked up, any suggestions?
