Right now I am booked at the Danhostel Amager for July 1-6, with my son, in standard dorm beds. www.copenhagenyouthhostel.dkI am wondering how convenient or inconvenient this hostel is. I tried some sample itineraries from central locations to the train station, and it didn't seem too bad. (Late at night, about 20 minutes walk and 6 minutes train is typical.) But maybe it would be best to stay in the city centre. Thus, I was also considering the Copenhagen Sleep-In hostel. www.sleep-in.dk/english.htmCan anyone provide recommendations for either hostel, or any other cheap accommodation? I am travelling with my 16-year-old son.

I've done some research into hostels in Copenhagen, and it seems there are two basic options which cost about the same:
* Hostels that are a few kilometers from the city center that have a reasonable number of beds per room and which charge about 95 kr per night, + sheets + breakfast. This includes the HI hostels and one or two others. (Sheets are 40 kr for the whole stay, breakfast is 45 kr per day.)
* Hostels that are in the city center and which have huge dorm rooms, with 30-60 beds. These cost about 90-125 kr, + sheets + breakfast (although the upper rate might include breakfast). Sheets are 30-40 kr. These are the Sleep-In hostels.
The new hostel, the Luftmadrassen, has a central location AND has 8 beds per room, with six rooms total. Currently the price is 200 kr per night, which includes sheets, breakfast, and Internet. However, the proprietor told me that in the summer, the price will go up to 225-250 kr.
So you can see that if you want *both* a central location and a reasonable amount of beds per room, you have to pay a fair bit more. I guess it just can't be helped - Copenhagen is an expensive city.
The Hotel Jorgensen might be an exception to the above - but I didn't consider it due to its under-35 age limit.

True. We stayed in a great little pension which was very central and not too bad of a price.. for Copenhagen. The only reason we found that was that we called the tourist office and said "Help, we can't afford any of these places!" They gave us the name of Chickens Pension, which has about 5 rooms with shared bathrooms. Our double was 300 Dk. Kr at the time but is now 450 Dk. Kr. No breakfast but you could use the kitchen to make your own. If anyone is interested, I do highly recommend it: www.chickens.dk/side2uk.htmKim
