Or are some of them too far out. Any other reccomendations welcome. HOSTEL ALIA HOSTEL VESTA HOSTEL STRAHOV HOSTEL PODOLÍ<br> I also heard there is a big problem with drink spiking. Is this true??

Hi Aimee,
Unfortunately, I don't know much about the hostels here in the Golden City.
But as for drink spiking, I have never heard of such a thing happening here. I think you would much sooner see someone watering down your drink, though I haven't heard of this, either.
Cheers, Ray

Three of the popular hostels are called Sir Toby's Hostel, the “Boathouse” (about a 20 minute tram ride from the center of town); and the “Clown and Bard.” www.clownandbard.com/index.html (the Clown and Bard is the closest of the three to the old town, followed by Sir Toby’s). Anyway I personally suggest staying at a private apartment if possible (if you can afford it), but if you want to stay at a hostel in Prague, then there are plenty to choose from. Regarding the lesser known places that you mentioned, •Hotel Spus-Podoli : Nalysine 12, Praha 4 Ph: 6431105 •Hotel Spus-Strahov mujweb.cz/www/hostel_strahov/ Vanickova 4, Blok 4, Praha 6 Tel/Fax:++420-2-20513419, Tel/Fax:++420-2-57210764 E-mail spus.hostels@worldonline.cz Expect to pay 10 Euro for a single, or 8 Euro for doubles and triples. This place is near the Prague Castle.

The clown and bard rents small appartments for long stays, if you want to combine privacy with hostel social life...
none of the hostels you named is favored by foreign travellers... these are either student dorms or hostels for youth groups...
