Anybody know of an inexpensive option to sleep near Stansted, got to catch a plane at 0600. Fly into London-Heathrow early in the evening the night before. So just looking for a place to crash for a few hours. Can you get any sleep at the airport? Is that a good idea?

Not sure about hostels, but the only hotel in that area is a Hilton at mega bucks! From what I could find on my visit in January, there are really no budget options in that vicinity at all.

The nearest hostel to Stansted is Harlow International Hostel at www.h-i-h.co.uk/ . I'm not sure what the transport options to Stansted are from there.

There are frequent trains between Harlow Town and Stansted airport, but the first train in the morning arrives at 5.50...

I slept in Stansted several times, and it is actually quite comfortable. Go upstairs, past the McDonalds and there is a lounge with shops all around and etc. The shops close fairly early and the couches are comfortable. I just chained my bag to the end, stretched out and slept. Don't forget to set and alarm, though, I almost slept through my flight to Amsterdam!
