Board in a hostel

Hello there!
I have a question about hostels. When you look up on their site, many say B&B half board and full board.
I was thinking B&B is bed and breakfast, which i am sure of.
Then half board with lunch, then full board with supper, but I would just like a confirmation,
is this really what is mean for half and full?
Is it worth taking full board according to you guys?

Half board is either lunch or dinner, full board both. I prefer neither - the freedom to pick your own restaurants (maybe in another town) should not be underestimated.
